A passion for netball

We are committed to catering for all players. This means there is a team for you no matter your ability - from serious Premier players to those returning to netball after years off and those who have never played before. We have teams in grades from Premier 2 to Senior 7.

We also encourage and support anyone wanting to take up coaching or umpiring with any costs covered by the club. We endeavour to have coaches for all our teams, meaning your skills improve throughout the season. We love the sport of netball and pass that onto all our members. There is no segregation between our top and bottom teams.

Fun

From monthly club nights and discounts at our supporter’s venues to a glamorous Prizegiving. We keep it fun on and off the court. We pride ourselves being welcoming and supportive.

Fitness & wellbeing

Team sports and a supportive environment are great for your fitness. We can provide sessions that will enhance your enjoyment of the game and prevent injury.

Grow your game

From playing, umpiring or coaching – we will be your biggest supporters in all areas of netball development. Just ask your coach or an awesome committee member what we can do for you.

Where and when we play

Akau Tangi Sport Centre, 72 Kemp st, Kilbirnie, Wellington

Monday night training

From ball skills and fitness drills to mini games and tactics, we have club training at Akau Tangi Sports Centre on Monday nights. Some teams practice on additional days depending on requirements.

Game day Saturday

On Saturdays we take what we've learnt on Monday and leave it all on the court! But the day doesn't stop there, you'll often find a 'not so quiet' crowd of Kia Ora supporters cheering on our teams after their own games.

Then it's off to debrief and celebrate with a drink at one of our sponsor’s venues, especially if it's club night (the first Saturday of the month).

Meet the people that make it happen

Gayle Hare
Club President

Gayle describes her role as being a mixture of Royalty, Boss, Mum, Fanatic. She started with the club as a player 48 years ago at the age of 2... and has coached Kia Ora teams through the grades from Senior One to Premier 2. Her message to people in the club - you know you have picked the right club to join, you will be part of the Kia Ora family for life!

hannah

Hannah Bellamy

Hannah is originally from Patea in Taranaki and moved to Wellington 15 years ago. She has been part of what is obviously the best netball club in the country for about 14 years.  She plays in the midcourt but describes herself as “a wannabe defender stuck in a short person’s body!”  She has coached at senior and prem reserve grade level for many years, which she says has been hugely rewarding.  Outside of netball she spends a lot of time with family and friends, going fishing, camping and anything outdoorsy.

Tessa Brown
Treasurer

Tessa has been with the club since 2002, most latterly as a coach. As a player she was known for long, and mostly uncontrolled, passes into the circle, and an “Australian-like” interpretation of the ‘non-contact’ rule. As a coach she is a nervous spectator who has been known to hide her eyes during tense ends to matches. Outside of netball she works to travel, spends more time than she likes maintaining her garden jungle, and takes photos of her cats.

Ashleigh De Vries
Secretary

Ashleigh De Vries has been Club Secretary for 10 years. She brings to the role a high standard of literacy and sparkling wit and describes herself as ‘the keeper of all knowledge’.

Stacey Owen
Club Captain

This year will be Stacey’s 10th year playing for Kia Ora... time fly's when you're having fun!! She has also coached teams the past few years as well as helping organise the club’s social events.  She loves a good party! Stacey says joining Kia Ora Netball club was hands down one of the best decisions she have made since living in Wellington.  I love playing netball but it's all the people involved in our Kia Ora family and our social events which keeps me coming back every year.

Aimee Dartnall
Social Events Coordinator

Aimee has been with Kia Ora ever since she moved to Wellington 6 years ago. She says she has met a whole lot of awesome ladies through this club and loves passing on her passion for netball through coaching. She plays GA/GS with a side of mid-court. Apparently her love of wine brought her to Kia Ora and her love of the people kept her here.

Abby.jpg

Abby Mainini
Uniform Coordinator

Abby has been with the club for 5 years, playing mainly both defence and coaching teams over the past couple of years. Netball has been her passion for many years and says that being a part Kia Ora means so much to her. She enjoys being around such amazing people! Outside of netball she likes to spend time with friends drinking too much wine and eating too much cheese!
